SILVIA MURILLO ORNAT is a senior lecturer in the Department of English and German Studies of the University of Zaragoza. After completing her degree in English, she received a competitive national scholarship for her doctoral studies at the University of Zaragoza. Her PhD thesis, a contrastive study of English and Spanish reformulation discourse markers (June 2007), obtained a Ph.D. Excellency Award. She currently teaches linguistics and specialized translation.

Her current research interests include contrastive pragmatics and academic metadiscourse, with special reference to the use of discourse markers. She has taken part in several projects on discourse markers and on translation, at the University of Zaragoza and in collaboration with other Spanish universities (University of Valencia and Autonomous University of Madrid).
