Ramón Plo Alastrué
Dr Ramón Plo Alastrué is senior lecturer at the English Department of the University of Zaragoza. As a member of a competitive research team dealing with contemporary English narrative he completed his doctoral dissertation on the work of novelist Lawrence Durrell and edited Beyond Borders (Carl Winter: Heidelberg, 2002). His classes at the Faculty of Science have resulted in an interest in pragmatic approaches to scientific discourse. In this area, he has authored several papers on the role of intertextuality in scientific writing (Ablex: Stamford, 1998) and co-authored pedagogical applications such as Link. An Interactive Course in English for Science and Technology (2000), awarded the 2nd “Ciudad de Zaragoza” prize for multimedia creations. At present, he is working with the InterLAE research group on the analysis of interpersonality in written academic communication and, in particular, on El desarrollo de competencias (Madrid: MEC, 2007) and the application of ICT to the teaching of academic English.
